Week 1 – The Bible is God’s Book

Lesson

“The Bible is God’s special book that tells us all about Jesus.”

Prayer

“Thank You, Jesus, that the Bible tells me about You.”

Passage

“Thank You, Jesus, that the Bible tells me about You.”

Welcome (5–10 minutes)

Set out:
  • Free play: blocks, play kitchen, soft toys.
  • Table: Bible coloring page (big open Bible) and crayons.
  • Place a real Bible in a special spot (small stand or pillow).

As kids arrive, say simple lines:
  • “Today we will learn about the Bible.”
  • “The Bible is God’s special book.”
  • “The Bible tells us about Jesus.”

Opening Prayer (echo prayer)

Children repeat after you:

“Dear God,
Thank You for loving us.
Thank You for Jesus.
Thank You for the Bible,
Your special book.
Help us listen and obey.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Use the same opening prayer every week if you like.

Songs (5–10 minutes)

Pick 2–3 songs, repeat them often through the year.

Song 1 – “The B-I-B-L-E”
Motions:
  • Hold hands like a book on “The B-I-B-L-E”.
  • Hug the “book” on “Yes, that’s the book for me”.
  • Step forward and stomp gently on “I stand alone on the Word of God”.

Song 2 – “Jesus Loves Me”
Motions:
  • Point to self on “me”.
  • Cross arms like a hug on “loves”.
  • Open hands like a book on “for the Bible tells me so”.

Optional short chant – “God’s Special Book”
“The Bible is God’s book,
God’s book, God’s book.
The Bible is God’s book,
It tells me about Jesus.”

Clap on “God’s book,” point to the Bible on “Bible,” and point up on “Jesus.”

Lesson

Sit kids in a circle so they can see the Bible in your hands.

a) Show the Bible
Hold up the Bible, let some children touch the cover gently.
  • “Look, I am holding a book. This is the Bible. The Bible is not just any book. The Bible is God’s special book. It is the most important book in the whole world.”
  • “The Bible tells us true stories about God. The Bible tells us how God made the world. The Bible tells us how God loves us and takes care of us.”

c) Key phrase with motions
Teach and repeat:
  • “The Bible is God’s book. Jesus loves me.”
Motions:
  • Hold hands like a book on “The Bible”.
  • Point up on “God’s”.
  • Point to yourself on “me”.
  • Cross arms in a hug on “loves”.

Say it 4–6 times:
  • Loud, whisper, standing, sitting.
  • Let one child “lead” the motions.

d) Optional very short video (4–6 minutes)
Choose a simple preschool video that explains:
  • What the Bible is
  • That it is God’s Word
  • That it tells about Jesus

After the video, ask 2–3 simple questions:
“What is this book called?” (Hold up Bible.)
“Whose book is it?” (God’s!)
“Who does the Bible tell us about?” (Jesus!)
Repeat the key phrase: “The Bible is God’s book. Jesus loves me.”
b) Jesus connection
Hold the Bible against your heart:

  • “The Bible tells us the best news of all: God sent His Son, Jesus. Jesus loves us so much. The Bible tells us all about Jesus—how He came, how He died on the cross, and how He came back to life. The Bible is God’s book that shows us Jesus.”

Craft – “The Bible Is God’s Book”

Goal: Each child takes home a simple “Bible” reminding them that it’s God’s book that tells about Jesus.

Steps
  • Pre-fold the white paper and place inside the colored “cover” like a little book.
  • Staple once along the fold (adult only).
  • Give each child one little “book.”
  • Help them glue the label on the front cover.
  • Let them decorate with stickers and crayons (hearts, crosses, their name).
  • On the first inside page, an adult or older helper can draw a simple cross and write: “Jesus loves me.”

Craft talk (short paragraph as they work)
“You are making a little Bible today. It reminds us that the Bible is God’s special book. The Bible tells us about Jesus and His love. When you see your little Bible at home, you can remember: ‘The Bible is God’s book. Jesus loves me.’”

Before you finish, ask each child to hold up their book and say together:
“The Bible is God’s book. Jesus loves me.”
Supplies

  • Black or dark-colored construction paper (half sheets) for “covers”.
  • White paper folded inside (2–3 small pages).
  • Short printed label: “The Bible is God’s book. Jesus loves me.”
  • Stickers: hearts, crosses, stars.
  • Glue sticks or tape.
  • Crayons or markers.

Closing Prayer (echo prayer)

Gather kids in a circle, each holding their little “Bible.”
“Dear Jesus, Thank You for the Bible, Your special book. Thank You that it tells me how much You love me. Help me listen to Your Word. Amen.”
