Week 10 – Wisdom for Everyday Life (Mother’s Day)

Summary

Kids learn that God’s wisdom is for everyday life and that He often shares it through parents, especially moms.
They see that listening, helping, and speaking kindly at home are real ways to live out biblical wisdom and to honor their moms.

Verse

Proverbs 31:26 – “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

Action idea:
  • “Speaks” – tap lips.
  • “Wisdom” – tap forehead.
  • “Instruction” – point like gently teaching.

Movement: “Wise Choices Corner Walk”

Label four corners:
  • “Kind Words”
  • “Helping Hands”
  • “Listening Ears”
  • “Thankful Hearts”

Call out simple everyday situations (e.g., “Your mom asks you to clean up,” “Your brother takes your toy,” “Mom looks tired in the kitchen”). Kids walk to the corner that shows the wise response. Tie in that Proverbs teaches wise choices at home.

Lesson: Wisdom for Everyday Life (Large group)

Briefly introduce Proverbs as God’s short wisdom sayings for daily life.

Share 2–3 kid-friendly verses:
  • Proverbs 1:8 – “Do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
  • Proverbs 15:1 – “A gentle answer turns away wrath.
  • Proverbs 31:26 – your memory verse.

For each verse, give one concrete “at home” example (helping without being asked, answering calmly, saying thank you to mom).

Small Groups: “Wisdom Heart for Mom”

  1. Each child gets a heart-shaped paper.
  2. On one side, leader writes a short proverb thought (e.g., “A wise child listens to their mom,” or a paraphrase of Proverbs 1:8 / 31:26).
  3. Kids decorate and then write/dictate one way they can show wisdom at home this week (help, listen, speak kindly).
  4. These become take-home “thank you, Mom” hearts they can give as a Mother’s Day encouragement.

Closer Game: “Proverb Charades”

Prepare simple “wisdom actions” on slips:
  • Helping mom carry groceries.
  • Cleaning up without being told.
  • Using a calm voice when upset.
  • Saying “thank you” to mom.

Kids act them out in teams; others guess the wise action and connect it to “What kind of wisdom is this?” (kindness, obedience, gentleness, gratitude).
