Lesson

“Adam and Eve disobeyed God, but God promised to send Jesus to fix our sin.”

Prayer

“Thank You, Jesus, for forgiving my sin.”

Passage

Genesis 2–3 (very simplified).

Welcome (5–10 minutes)

Set out:
  • Free play: toy people, animals, trees/plants, blocks.
  • Table: coloring page of Adam and Eve in a garden (very simple) and crayons.

As kids arrive, say simple lines:
  • “Today we will hear about the first people, Adam and Eve.”
  • “They lived in a beautiful garden God made.”
  • “We will hear how they disobeyed, and how God still loved them and us.”

Opening Prayer (echo prayer)

Children repeat after you:

“Dear God,
Thank You for loving us.
Thank You for Jesus.
Thank You for the Bible,
Your special book.
Help us listen and obey.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Songs (5–10 minutes)

Pick 2–3 songs, repeat them often through the year.

Song 1 – “The B-I-B-L-E”
Motions:
  • Hold hands like a book on “The B-I-B-L-E”.
  • Hug the “book” on “Yes, that’s the book for me”.
  • Step forward and stomp gently on “I stand alone on the Word of God”.

Song 2 – “Jesus Loves Me”
Motions:
  • point to self on “me,”
  • hug on “loves,”
  • hands like a book on “Bible tells me so.”

Song 3 – “God Made Me, God Loves Me” chant
“God made me (point to self),
God loves me (hug self),
The Bible tells me so (book hands).
Jesus came,
Knows my name,
He’s with me where I go (walk in place).”

Repeat 2–3 times.

Lesson

Sit kids in a circle. Have simple props: two paper people (Adam and Eve), a paper tree, and a paper fruit.

a) Set the scene: Garden and first people
Hold up the two paper people.
  • “The Bible tells us about the very first people God made. Their names were Adam and Eve. God made Adam and Eve and put them in a beautiful garden.”
Show the tree and maybe some toy animals.
  • “In the garden, there were trees, flowers, animals, and good food. God walked with Adam and Eve and talked with them. God loved them very much.”

b) The command and disobedience (very simple, gentle)
Hold up the tree and one special fruit.
  • “God gave Adam and Eve many good things to eat. But God said, ‘Do not eat the fruit from this one special tree.’ God wanted them to trust and obey Him.”
  • Lower your voice a bit:
  • “One day, a sneaky snake told Eve to eat the fruit from the special tree. Adam and Eve listened to the snake instead of listening to God. They ate the fruit God said not to eat. That was disobeying God. The Bible calls that ‘sin’—not doing what God says.”

c) Consequences and God’s love
Gently show Adam and Eve looking sad (turn them around or lower them).
  • “When Adam and Eve disobeyed, they felt afraid and ashamed. They had to leave the beautiful garden. Sin makes us far from God. But God still loved Adam and Eve very much. God promised that one day He would send Someone to fix the sin problem.”

e) Key phrase with motions
Teach and repeat:
  • “Adam and Eve disobeyed. Jesus forgives me.”

Motions:
Two fingers “walking away” on “disobeyed.”
Hands together like praying/sorry on “Jesus.”
Point to self and hug self on “forgives me.”
Say it several times: quiet, loud, sitting, standing.
d) Jesus connection
Hold up a simple cross picture or just place a hand on the Bible.

“The Bible tells us that God kept His promise. God sent His Son, Jesus, to help us and save us from our sin. Jesus obeyed God perfectly. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and came back to life. Because of Jesus, we can be close to God again. When we make wrong choices like Adam and Eve, we can say sorry, and Jesus forgives us and still loves us.”

Craft – “Adam, Eve, and God’s Love”

Goal:
  • Simple garden scene with Adam and Eve, plus a Jesus/forgiveness line.

Steps
  • Give each child a garden page.
  • Help them glue two people shapes (Adam and Eve) in the garden.
  • Help them glue a tree and a few fruit shapes on the tree or ground.
  • Add the phrases at the bottom or top:
    • “God made Adam and Eve.”
    • “When I disobey, Jesus forgives me.”
  • Let them draw animals, flowers, or sun if there’s time.

Craft talk (short paragraph as they work)
  • “In this picture, we see Adam and Eve in the garden God made. God made them and loved them. They disobeyed, but God still loved them and promised to send Jesus. When we make wrong choices and disobey, we can tell Jesus we are sorry. Jesus forgives us and loves us.”

  • When finished, invite them to “read” their booklet by pointing at each page while you say:
    • “God made Adam and Eve.”
    • “When I disobey, Jesus forgives me.”
Supplies

  • Green paper or white paper with a simple “garden” outline.
  • Pre-cut simple people shapes (2 per child) for Adam and Eve.
  • Tree shape and small circle “fruit” shapes.
  • Glue sticks.
  • Crayons/markers.
  • Label/space to write:
    • “God made Adam and Eve.”
    • And below: “When I disobey, Jesus forgives me.”

Closing Prayer (echo prayer)

Gather kids in a circle, each holding their little “Bible.”
“Dear Jesus, Thank You for making Adam and Eve. Thank You for making me. I am sorry for the times I disobey.
Thank You for forgiving me. Help me obey You because You love me.
Amen.”
