Sit kids in a circle. Reuse Joseph’s colorful coat from last week, a few “brothers,” and maybe a small “road” or “desert” picture.
a) Quick review of Joseph and his coat
Hold up the colorful coat.
b) Joseph sent far away (slavery idea in simple language)
Move Joseph figure away from the others.
c) God’s presence with Joseph
Bring Joseph figure to another spot and place a hand above him.
e) Key phrase with motions
Teach and repeat:
Motions:

Hold up the colorful coat.
- “Last time we heard about Joseph and his special colorful coat. His father gave it to him because he loved Joseph very much. But Joseph’s brothers were jealous and unkind.”
- “The brothers did not like Joseph being the favorite. Their hearts were full of anger.”
b) Joseph sent far away (slavery idea in simple language)
Move Joseph figure away from the others.
- “One day, when Joseph came to see his brothers, they were very unkind. They took his special coat away. Then they sent Joseph far, far away with some men who were traveling. Joseph had to go to a new country with new people and new language.”
- “It was a very sad and scary time for Joseph. He was not with his father or his home anymore. But even though he was far away, Joseph was not alone.”
c) God’s presence with Joseph
Bring Joseph figure to another spot and place a hand above him.
- “The Bible tells us that God was with Joseph. God was with Joseph when he was at home, and God was with Joseph when he was far away. God helped Joseph even in hard times.”

d) Jesus connection
Place a hand on the Bible or hold a cross picture.
“The Bible tells us that Jesus is ‘God with us.’ Jesus knows what it feels like when people are unkind or when we feel alone. Jesus promises to be with us all the time. When we go to a new place or feel scared, Jesus is still with us and loves us.”
Place a hand on the Bible or hold a cross picture.

Craft – “Joseph Far Away, God Still There”
Goal:
Steps
Craft talk (short paragraph as they work)
- Show Joseph in a “far place” with words that God/Jesus are with him.
Steps
- Give each child a paper.
- On one side, lightly draw a house or tree (home).
- On the other side, lightly draw a simple “far away” place (different house or sun and hills).
- Help them glue Joseph in the “far away” side (not at home).
- Let them color both sides: home, far place, sun, etc.
- Add the phrase at the bottom:
- “Joseph went far away. God was with Joseph. Jesus is with me.”
- For younger ones, you can skip the “home” side and just have Joseph standing under a big sun in a “new country.”
Craft talk (short paragraph as they work)
- “In your picture, Joseph is far from home. He had to go to a new place. That was hard, but God did not leave him. God was with Joseph far away. Jesus is with you wherever you go—home, church, daycare, school, a trip—Jesus stays with you and loves you.”
- When finished, invite them to “read” their booklet by pointing at each page while you say:
- “Joseph went far away. God was with Joseph. Jesus is with me.”
Closing Prayer (echo prayer)
Gather kids in a circle, each holding their little “Bible.”
“Dear Jesus, Thank You for being with Joseph when he was far away.
Thank You for being with me wherever I go.
When I feel scared or alone, help me remember that You are with me.
I love You. Amen.”
“Dear Jesus, Thank You for being with Joseph when he was far away.
Thank You for being with me wherever I go.
When I feel scared or alone, help me remember that You are with me.
I love You. Amen.”
