Prayer

“Jesus, thank You that all these stories point to You.”

Passage

Old Testament

Welcome (5–10 minutes)

Set out:
  • Free play “review centers”:
    • Creation: animal figures, plants/trees, sun/moon/star pieces.
    • Patriarchs: tents (blocks + cloth), people figures.
    • Moses/Joshua: small “sea” (blue cloth) and “walls” (blocks).
    • David/Daniel/Jonah: toy sheep, lions, boat and fish.
  • Table: review coloring page with small icons for several stories (world, ark, stars, sea, walls, lion, big fish) and crayons.

As kids arrive, say simple lines:
  • “Today we will remember many of our Bible stories.”
  • “We learned that God made everything and takes care of His people.”
  • “All these stories help us see how good God is and point us to Jesus.”

Opening Prayer (echo prayer)

Children repeat after you:

“Dear God,
Thank You for loving us.
Thank You for Jesus.
Thank You for the Bible,
Your special book.
Help us listen and obey.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Songs (5–10 minutes)

Pick 2–3 songs, repeat them often through the year.

Song 1 – “The B-I-B-L-E”
Motions:
  • Hold hands like a book on “The B-I-B-L-E”.
  • Hug the “book” on “Yes, that’s the book for me”.
  • Step forward and stomp gently on “I stand alone on the Word of God”.

Song 2 – “Jesus Loves Me”
Motions:
  • point to self on “me,”
  • hug on “loves,”
  • hands like a book on “Bible tells me so.”

Song 3 – “God Made Me, God Loves Me” chant
“God made me (point to self),
God loves me (hug self),
The Bible tells me so (book hands).
Jesus came,
Knows my name,
He’s with me where I go (walk in place).”

Repeat 2–3 times.

Lesson

Sit kids in a circle with a “story basket.” In the basket, place small objects for each story you want to review:
  • Creation: small leaf or flower.
  • Noah: tiny ark or boat.
  • Abraham: star picture.
  • Moses/Red Sea: blue cloth strip.
  • Ten Commandments: small “tablets” (paper rectangles).
  • Joshua/Jericho: small block “wall.”
  • David the shepherd: toy sheep.
  • David & Goliath: small stone or “sling” strip.
  • Daniel: toy lion.
  • Jonah: small fish.
Take each object out one by one and give a 1–2 sentence reminder.

a) Story basket review
Leaf/flower – Creation
  • “God made the world—light, sky, water, plants, sun, moon, stars, animals, and people. God made you and loves you.”
Boat – Noah
  • “God told Noah to build an ark. Noah obeyed, and God kept Noah, his family, and the animals safe in the big flood.”
Star – Abraham
  • “God promised Abraham a big family, more than the stars in the sky. God kept His promise and sent Jesus from Abraham’s family.”
Blue cloth – Red Sea
  • “God’s people were stuck at the Red Sea. God made the water move and made a dry path. God made a way for His people.”
Tablets – Ten Commandments
  • “God gave Moses His good rules to show the best way to live—love God and love people.”
Wall – Jericho
  • “God told Joshua and the people to march and blow trumpets. God made the walls of Jericho fall down. God is strong.”
Sheep – David the shepherd
  • “David was a shepherd who took care of his sheep. Later, God made him king. God helped him.”
Stone/sling – David & Goliath
  • “David was small and Goliath was big. David trusted God, and God helped him win the battle.”
Lion – Daniel
  • “Daniel prayed to God even when it was against the rule. God kept Daniel safe in the lions’ den.”
Fish – Jonah
  • “Jonah ran away from God, but God still loved him. God sent a big fish, kept Jonah safe, and gave him another chance to obey.”

c) Key phrase with motions
Teach and repeat:
  • “The Bible stories show me God’s love. Jesus is with me.”

Motions:
  • Hands like an open book on “Bible stories.”
  • Hands on heart on “God’s love.”
  • Point up (Jesus) then to self and hug on “Jesus is with me.”

Say it several times: loud, whisper, standing and sitting.
d) Jesus connection
Hold the Bible and look around the circle.

“All these stories show us that God is powerful, God is good, and God loves His people. But they also point us to Someone special—Jesus. Jesus is the One God promised to send. He is our Good Shepherd, our Rescuer, and our King.”
“Just like God made a way through the sea, Jesus makes a way for us to be close to God. Just like God kept Daniel safe and forgave Jonah, Jesus is with us and forgives us when we disobey. The whole Bible—from these stories to the end—helps us know and follow Jesus.”

Craft – “My Old Testament Story Wheel” (or Booklet)

Choose whichever fits your time and prep: a simple wheel or a mini-booklet.

Option A: Story Wheel
Steps
  • Give each child a circle.
  • Divide it into 4–6 “pie” sections (pre-drawn) for different stories.
  • In each section, have them draw or glue a simple symbol (world, boat, star, waves, lion, fish).
  • Add the phrase around the edge or at the back:
    • “The Bible tells God’s stories. Jesus loves me.”
  • Optional: Add an arrow with a fastener to “spin” and stop on a story.

Option B: “Story Memory” Booklet
Steps
  • Page 1: kids draw the world or creation scene.
  • Page 2: ark and animals.
  • Page 3: small David/big Goliath or Daniel and lions.
  • Page 4: cross or heart with “Jesus loves me.”
Write simple captions and let them color.

Craft talk (short paragraph as they work)
  • “You are making something to help you remember a few of the Bible stories we heard. Each picture shows a story where God cared for His people. All these stories point to Jesus, who loves us, rescues us, and is with us. When you look at your wheel or book, you can remember: ‘The Bible tells God’s stories. Jesus loves me.’”

  • When they’re finished, have them “spin” or flip through and say:
    • “God made the world.”
    • “God saved Noah.”
    • “God helped David and Daniel.”
    • “Jesus loves me.”
      Then together:
    • “The Bible tells God’s stories. Jesus loves me.”
Supplies

Option A: Story Wheel
  • Circle of cardstock per child (paper plate works well).
  • 4–6 simple picture stickers or icons (or spaces to draw):
  • World, ark, star, sea path, lion, fish.
  • Brass fastener and arrow (optional) or just the circle.
  • Crayons/markers.
  • Label/space to write: “The Bible tells God’s stories. Jesus loves me.”

Option B: “Story Memory” Booklet
  • Folded paper booklet (2–4 pages).
  • Crayons/markers.
  • Labels per page, e.g.:
  • Page 1: “God made the world.”
  • Page 2: “God saved Noah.”
  • Page 3: “God helped David.”
  • Page 4: “Jesus loves me.”

Closing Prayer (echo prayer)

Gather kids in a circle, each holding their little “Bible.”
“Dear Jesus, Thank You for all the stories we learned from the Bible.
Thank You that You are in every story.
Thank You for loving me, keeping me safe, and forgiving me.
Help me remember what I learned about You. Amen.”
