Week 48 – God Sends Helpers (Missionaries)

Lesson

“Jesus tells us to tell others about Him. Missionaries share Jesus’ love.”

Prayer

“Jesus, help people all over the world hear about You.”

Passage

Matthew 28:19–20

Welcome (5–10 minutes)

Set out:
  • Free play: people figures, toy globes or maps, toy cars/planes/boats to “go,” a church made of blocks.
  • Table: coloring page of people telling others about Jesus (or children around a globe with a cross), plus crayons.

As kids arrive, say simple lines:
  • “Today we will learn that God sends helpers called missionaries.”biblestudiesforlife.
  • “Missionaries tell people about Jesus.”
  • “We can help them and also tell others about Jesus too.”

Opening Prayer (echo prayer)

Children repeat after you:

“Dear God,
Thank You for loving us.
Thank You for Jesus.
Thank You for the Bible,
Your special book.
Help us listen and obey.
In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Songs (5–10 minutes)

Song 1 – B-I-B-L-E
  • Bible hands, hug the “book,” step on “I stand alone.”

Song 2 – Honor God

Song 3 – “Go and Tell”
(Tune: “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”)
“Go, go, go and tell,
Tell of Jesus’ love.
God sends helpers everywhere,
With good news from above.”

Motions:
Walk in place on “go,” point up on “above,” point outward on “everywhere.”

Lesson

Sit kids in a circle. Use: Jesus figure, disciples, small “world” (ball), maybe a picture of a missionary family.

a) Jesus gives us a job (Great Commission, simplified)
Place Jesus with His friends.
  • “Before Jesus went back to heaven, He gave His friends a special job. He said, ‘Go and tell people everywhere about Me. Make disciples in all nations.’ That means, ‘Go and tell people the good news.’”
  • Hold a little “world” ball.
  • “The world is big, with many countries and languages. Jesus wants people in every place to hear that He loves them and died for them.”

b) What is a missionary?
Show a picture/figure of a family or person.
  • “A missionary is a helper God sends to tell people about Jesus. Some missionaries go far away to other countries. Some work in our own country or city. They tell people the good news and help them learn to follow Jesus.”
  • “Missionaries might teach the Bible, help with food or schools, or start churches so people can worship God.”

c) We can help and we can share too
Point gently to the children.
  • “Not everyone moves far away, but we can all help God’s work. We can pray for missionaries, give money or gifts to help them, and be kind to new people from other places.”
  • “We can also be little ‘missionaries’ where we live—telling our friends that Jesus loves them, inviting them to church, and showing Jesus’ love in how we act.”

e) Key phrase with motions
Teach and repeat:
  • “God sends helpers to tell about Jesus. I can help tell about Jesus too.”

Motions:
Point up on “God,” then push hands outward like sending on “sends helpers.”
Point up (Jesus) on “tell about Jesus.”
Point to self on “I can help,” then cup hands around mouth on “tell.”

Say it several times: loud, whisper, standing and sitting.
d) Jesus connection (why we go)
Place a hand on your heart.

  • “Jesus came from heaven to earth for us. He left His home to rescue us. Because Jesus loves us so much, we want others to know His love too. That’s why God sends helpers—and why we help and share.”

Craft – “Pray for Missionaries” World Poster

Goal:
Simple “world” picture with kids praying and the key phrase.

Steps
  • Give each child a paper with the big circle.
  • Help them color the circle like the earth (blue water, green land—simple).
  • Around the world, have them draw children or little stick people—some could look different to hint at “all kinds of people.”
  • Draw themselves praying near the world (hands together) or add a heart next to a missionary picture if you have one.
  • At the bottom, write:
  • “God sends helpers to tell about Jesus. I can help tell about Jesus too.”

Craft talk (short paragraph as they work)
  • “You are coloring the world God made. There are many people all over this world who need to hear that Jesus loves them. God sends missionaries to help tell them. We can pray for them and tell people here about Jesus too. When you see this picture, remember: ‘God sends helpers to tell about Jesus. I can help tell about Jesus too.’”

Have children hold up their worlds and say:
  • “God sends helpers to tell about Jesus. I can help tell about Jesus too.”
Supplies

  • Paper with a big circle (world) outline in the middle, or pre-printed simple map shapes.
  • Crayons/markers (blue/green for world; others for people).
  • Optional: small heart stickers.
  • Label/space to write: “God sends helpers to tell about Jesus. I can help tell about Jesus too.”

Closing Prayer (echo prayer)

Gather kids in a circle, each holding their little “Bible.”
Thank You for missionaries who tell others about You. Please take care of them, give them what they need, and help them be brave.
Help me tell my friends that You love them too. I want to be Your helper.
Amen.”
