Lesson

Sit in a circle with your nativity set. Move through the story in four short “scenes,” each 2–3 sentences, then have kids repeat a simple line.

a) Angel and Mary
Hold up Mary and an angel.
  • “God sent an angel to a young woman named Mary. The angel told her, ‘You will have a baby. He will be God’s Son. You will name Him Jesus.’ Mary trusted God and said yes.”

Ask kids to say: “Jesus is God’s Son.”

b) Bethlehem, stable, and manger
Place Mary and Joseph on the “road,” then at the stable.
  • “Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem. The town was full and there was no room in the inn. So Jesus was born in a place where animals stayed, and Mary laid Him in a manger.”

Ask kids to say: “Jesus was born for us.”

c) Angels and shepherds
Bring out shepherds, sheep, and angels.
  • “That night, shepherds were watching their sheep. Angels appeared and said, ‘Do not be afraid. We bring good news—today a Savior has been born; He is Christ the Lord.’ The shepherds hurried to see baby Jesus and praised God.”

Ask kids to say: “Jesus is our Savior.”

d) Wise men and gifts
Bring wise men and star.
  • “Far away, wise men saw a special star. They followed it and found Jesus. They bowed down and worshiped Him and gave Him gifts of treasure, because He is the King.”

Ask kids to say: “Jesus is our King.”

e) One-sentence summary
Hold baby Jesus at the center of the scene.
  • “The whole Christmas story shows us this: Jesus is God’s Son, our Savior and King, born because God loves us very much.”

Key phrase (with motions):
  • “Jesus is God’s Son, my Savior, and my King.”

Motions:
Point up on “God’s Son.”
Hand on heart on “my Savior.”
Make a little crown shape over head on “my King.”

Repeat a few times.

Craft – “Christmas Story Wheel”

Goal:
Simple review tool showing four main parts of the story.

Sections
  1. Angel & Mary
  2. Stable & manger (Holy Family)
  3. Shepherds & angels
  4. Wise men & star

Steps
  • Give each child the circle with 4 sections.
  • In each section, help them draw or glue a tiny picture:
    • Angel and Mary.
    • Baby Jesus in a manger with Mary and Joseph.
    • Shepherds with sheep and an angel.
    • Wise men with a star.
  • Around the edge or on the back, write:
    • “Jesus is God’s Son, my Savior, and my King.”
  • Let them color each scene.

As they work, quickly review each picture:
  • “Who is this? What happened? What did the angels say?” etc.

Craft talk:
  • “Your circle shows the whole Christmas story: angel and Mary, baby Jesus in the manger, shepherds and angels, wise men and the star. All of it is about Jesus. When you look at this, remember: ‘Jesus is God’s Son, my Savior, and my King.’”

Have them “spin” or just point around the circle and say the line together:
  • “Jesus is God’s Son, my Savior, and my King.”
Supplies

  • A circle divided into 4 sections (pre-drawn).
  • Crayons/markers.
  • Optional: simple icon stickers or small pictures to glue (angel, stable, shepherd, star).
  • Space on the back or edge to write
  • “Jesus is God’s Son, my Savior, and my King.”

Thank You for coming as a baby. Thank You for Mary and Joseph, angels and shepherds, and wise men who worshiped You.
Thank You for being God’s Son, my Savior, and my King. I love You.
Amen.”
